MAKE FASHION 2014

” Fashion is the art, designers are the Gods, models play the part of angels in the dark, which one of you would ever dare to go against, that beauty is a trade and, everyone is paid… Fashionista … How do you look?” – jimmy James

It is my honour and privilege to finally tell you all how I closed the show for our designers at Make Fashion 2014.
Www.makefashion.ca (SOLD OUT SHOW) (@makefashionca)

My designers were Stacey Morgan , Amie Mae (THE HATTER), and Kenzie Housego, my robotics were by Dan Damron.

Hair and makeup team:
MUA: Jade Brunes Benish Khan HEAD MUA: Christine Murray
Hair: Edith Savanya and Jason Mellor (Edge salon and spa)

I finished my morning shoot at Numa models, raced to pick up our “golden girl” Sonia. (@Sonia_couture88) and from there we made it on perfect time to meet our design team.

DID I MENTION ITS -45 outside!!!

We all piled into the west jet centre where the madness was beginning…

God I love chaos.

My lovely little hatter, (don’t be fooled by the little, she makes HUGE hats) asked if anyone could sew, well thanks to my mum, I volunteered and sewed my own wig clips into my hat.
Once everyone had finished run through… The insanity cup spilled over, in the best way possible.

Models running up and down the hallways for hair, makeup. Photographers, videographers, event organizers, swarming us at various times. At least 6makeup stations including special effects, about 8-9 MUA’s and about 8-9 stylists led by the extremely talented and fabulous Christine Murray (MUA) and Jason Mellor (hair) At an hour to show people were starting freak, tears were falling, and while in my hair chair I hear a strong gay voice pipe up “everyone who’s freaking out needs to chill, everyone will be ready, this isn’t my first show!” and with that I trusted him. The man’s a god among stylists.
In between hair and make-up my Stylist and I ran at the sight of someone bringing pizza backstage. I engulfed half of it when a camera that was filming panned my way. I swiftly tossed the pizza in the garbage just as the camera caught my face as I exclaimed “I wasn’t eating pizza!” It was an ongoing joke for the most of the night
I went to the washroom before makeup, and my G-string snapped. I suddenly understood why at 10yrs old my dad said to me before violin lessons “Carolynne, don’t tell people you’re teacher broke your g string on your violin.. they won’t think it’s a violin” funny how dad’s wisdom enlightens me at times like this.
I had to opt to go pantie-less for the 30-45mins I was in a dress… thank god my mother didn’t know or she would’ve cringed! Who thinks to bring a backup g string!!! NOTE TO SELF! at fashion shows, if something can go wrong, it will, BE PREPARED!!!
I had my makeup done by 2 artists which was very exciting. At one point Jade, my first MUA who air brushed my foundation on, said “ok can you close your lips for me,” and because she works in TV and Film I replied “ever say that to a porn star?” (I know… I’m perverted, lol)
I went to Jason the hair guru to pin my hair to my hat and we were good to go…
Until…
We forgot the dress doesn’t have a zipper in the back… It’s up the side. So the hat had to come off and be repined to my head. We called in a hair 911 to Jason downstairs who, worked his magic, had me pinned and fixed with Edith’s help just in time. We literally had 15mins until our act, the illuminated vintage Team, closes the whole show.
When it came time, our music blared (“booty swing” pavrov stellar)
Stunning and fierce lady in pink Ashley Wood walked first. Her gorgeous doll like features paired wonderfully with the bright pink dress, accented by lower lights and a light up motion activated feather fan, her hair was styled with hot pink extensions in a “low Gibson”. Followed by the luminescent golden girl Sonia, who’s blonde hair lit up with the gorgeous hat and light up golden gown, whose lights were sequenced by her heart beat (she wore a heart monitor in an earring! how James bond!!!!) Her outfit was accented with helium balloons holding LED lights, and of course rocked her gorgeous Manolo Blahnik shoes! The demure Eloise Yaskiw’s signature red locks were swept up at the sides into victory rolls, and atop her head was a stunning fascinator made by Kenzie. The lovely green lady, whose lime green dress was accented with lights also had a multi functioned, light up, bedazzled parasol. And finally, my robot.. Spike.. And me! Spike ran away from me and I chased him. Then he pooped nuts and bolts on the runway and I had to run and scoop them up . My dress was a short red, seemingly backless piece reminiscent of the 1940’s, with fibre optic lights throughout the back and neck piece. My amazingly dragalicious hat, which would have been PERFECT for the royal wedding, had lights in it as well and hand crafted rosette flowers, along with a red netted face veil. HOW FABULOUS!
The things we DONT TELL YOU: My hat probably weighed 4-5lbs. Plus all my hair. To get the perfect red, the material of my dress was actually almost plastic, it was a safety vest material, BUT HOW IN STYLE IS THAT COLOUR!!! JENNIFER LAWRENCE IS WEARING IT TONIGHT ON THE RED CARPET!!!! ONE DAY AFTER OUR SHOW!!!! (COINCIDENCE… perhaps..,.. but I’d like to think NOT!)
I was wearing a backless, strapless bra from La Senza. I was warned by Eloise that “they get gross and sweaty after you wear them” that’s the understatement of the year when you wear them under an almost plastic dress. in the -45 weather this morning they were completely adhered, frozen to my plastic bag… gross!
When we finished were we the most photographed team in the whole event. TEAM ILLUMINATED VINTAGE STOLE THE SHOW!!!! VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM
