Retro-Tech

Today was our last rehearsal before the big MAKE FASHION show next Saturday, March 1st, 2014.
It was amazing to see all the designers and models come together and tweak their projects in one venue. On one side you can see a girl holding a mannequin while the other goes at it with a hacksaw, in the corner you see a tech wizard working the controls on my robot, all around the room are sewing machines and crinoline and mesh all over the place.
And in our design corner, team “retro-tech” (as I have named us) our designers were fitting our hats on us, putting in last minute pins and adding some amazing accoutrements which unfortunately I cannot divulge until show time. What I will say is that our theme is a retro inspired fashion meets new age technology, each piece is based on a colour theme, I am one of four models, the lovely lady in red.
As we were practising our runway we had the honour of being interviewed by “Avenue Magazine” (twitter: @avenuemagazine) and had some photos taken. I greatly look forward to their article.
Two other pieces by different designers I feel need an honourable mention. Please keep your eyes peeled for the bridal dress “Catherine Hazin, Kelly Hofer & Dianne Gibson will present an enchanting biomimetic wedding gown constructed with sophisticated fibre optic technology, 3D printing, and a host of sensors. Inspired by fireflies, large feathered birds, and bio luminescent plankton, this revolutionary dress will illuminate in response to the heartbeat of the bride and the color of her surrounding environment, as well as her movement”, and the stunning design being worn by model Elle Nguyen, “Elle Nguyen, Aman Dhalay & Javeda – Drawing inspiration from traditional garments, this team will be creating a bold piece utilizing robotics and illumination” it’s absolutely breathtaking.
Show time is Saturday and 8pm! Hope to see you all there!
